Pattern: Ladybug Lucy

Ladybug Lucy
Ladybug Lucy

Ladybug Lucy was born out of the request of a good friend to crochet her cat a ladybug. I had wanted to make another pattern for quite a while, so when she asked me this I immediately went on a quest to figure out how to make it as pretty as possible. And thus, Ladybug Lucy was created!

Or scroll down for the pattern on site.

What you need:

  • Black and white yarn, and a bright color of yarn for a 2.5-3mm crochet hook. I always use Phil Coton 3
  • 5mm crochet hook (or one more suitable for your yarn)
  • Fiberfill
  • Saftey eyes (8mm)
  • Blunt needle
  • Scissors

You may change the yarn bulk, size of the crochet hook or the size of the safety eyes as you see fit. The ladybugs will then be bigger or smaller, depending on your choices.

Used stitches:

  • Magic ring
  • Chains (Ch)
  • Slip stitches (Sl)
  • Single crochet (Sc)

All parts are crocheted in a spiral, and started with a magic ring. I am here to help, so if you need any help, just ask.

Repeat between **.

Dots

Make in black:

  1. Magic ring, 6sc. (6)
  2. 2sc in each stitch. (12)
  3. Sl in the first stitch, cut the yarn. Use this strand to stitch the dots on the wings.

Heart

The small hart is not designed by me, but you can find it on Ursula Margraf’s website: http://ursulamarkgraf.com/crochet/tiny-crochet-heart-free-pattern-tutorial

Assembly

Your ladybug is almost finished! First weave in nearly all ends of the wings, leaving 1 or 2 at the bottom to attach to the body. Put the wings at 1/3rd from the edge. Make sure you don’t curve the wings too much around the face like in the first picture below, but leave them as straight as possible. Only attach the row of 26sc. Attach the dots (and/or hearts) on the wings, and weave in all ends.
